From Ubud to the Coast

Start among Ubud's green hills and traditional architecture, then head to Pasut Beach for an evening by the sea. A journey from inland Bali to a coastal sunset.

There is a nice way to finish a stay in Ubud: leave time for breakfast, pack your bags, and head towards the sea. By late afternoon, you could be sitting by the coast at Pasut, watching the light change over the water.

For anyone wondering where to stay after Ubud, this is one way to carry on a Bali holiday. Spend a few days exploring the town and its green surroundings, then make room for a few nights by the beach. You can enjoy a different view without catching another flight or a boat.

One last morning in Ubud

Ubud's hills, wooded valleys and surrounding rice fields give you plenty of reasons to stay a while. There are galleries to look around, places to stop for coffee and walks that take you away from the main streets.

Perhaps your last morning is for returning to a café you liked. Perhaps it is just breakfast with a green view before checking out. There is no need to squeeze another full outing into the day you leave.

In the centre of town, the carved gateway of Puri Saren Agung, or Ubud Palace, is a familiar sight. It is the gateway in our cover photograph, taken in February 2025. If you are still planning your stay, Indonesia's tourism guide to Ubud offers a starting point.

When the bags are ready, it is time to head down towards Bali's west coast.

From the hills towards the sea

The journey from Ubud to Pasut connects two different settings: the inland hills and valleys, and Tabanan's open coastline. You are still travelling through Bali's villages and roads, so leave some room in the day for traffic and a lunch stop.

From central Ubud, allow roughly 1.5–2 hours by car to the Pasut Beach area for planning. Routes from the Ubud Palace reference point are approximately 37–39 kilometres. The drive can take longer depending on your accommodation, traffic, weather and the route.

You can check the Ubud–Pasut route on Google Maps. Use your actual accommodation locations when booking transport, and confirm your arrival time with the villa team.

If sunset is part of your plan, aim to arrive well before it. That gives you time to unpack and settle in, instead of watching the clock from the car.

Stay for the evening light

Pasut has a long stretch of black sand, with coconut palms along parts of the shore. After the green views around Ubud, the open sea is a lovely place to spend the rest of the afternoon.

At Villa Lux Bali, the garden leads directly onto the beach. You can take a walk along the shore, then find a seat facing the water. On clear evenings, the sunset can bring warm colour across the sky and reflections on the wet sand. The colours depend on the weather; some evenings are bright, while others are soft and cloudy.

There is something to enjoy in staying through that change of light. The afternoon becomes evening, the beach grows darker, and you can sit a little longer before thinking about dinner.

A few nights on the coast

Staying at Pasut means the evening can end there. You can have dinner, sleep, and wake up with the sea close by the next morning.

For a family or a group of friends travelling together, Villa Lux has four ensuite bedrooms for up to eight guests and a private 20-metre pool. There is room for a swim, a book in the shade, or time together in the garden. You can see more of the villa here.

For a six-night holiday, three nights in Ubud followed by three nights at Pasut is one possible starting point. Confirm availability and any minimum-stay requirements for your dates. Ask the team about meals and any services you would like to arrange before arriving.

If you feel like going out again, our stories about an afternoon in Soka and a morning in Jatiluwih offer ideas for separate outings from Pasut.

But leave an evening free for the beach. After a few days looking out over Ubud's green hills, it is nice to end the day with a view of the sea.

Send us your dates and group size if you would like to make Villa Lux part of that journey.
